The loss of life in World War One was horrific and world history had never seen such staggering figures in past conflicts  Sadly it is impossible to know exact figures so the details below are based on the best information possible.  The numbers below are from a number of combined official and unofficial sources. There are some nations whose numbers are not mentioned in the chart below.  This is not done out of disrespect it is only done as the loss numbers of many nations are unknown.  As such I thought it best not to guess or estimate based on incomplete information. Numbers are not exact as in some cases numbers were rounded up or down depending on which source was used.  This was done as many of the sources do not agree with each other so it is hard to state which source is correct. POW's and missing in action numbers are not a part of this chart.
